In this digital age, there are numerous streaming and content-sharing platforms. Each has its guidelines and rules. Some platforms, like Youtube, prohibit playing copyrighted music unless it follows Fair Use, while other platforms, like TikTok, can share copyrighted music freely.

At The Lomnitzer Law Firm, P.A., we believe in the freedom of expression and that the work of artists should be protected. We are offering this $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior, college student, or graduate student who can offer an interesting outlook on the fairness of each platform and how it relates to them, the creators on each platform, and the musicians. Do you believe that guidelines allow you to express yourself freely, or would you like to see changes in regulations? To apply, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

Eligibility

  • Any current high school senior, college student, or graduate student who is a legal resident of the United States for the 2024 fall semester is eligible to apply.
  • Employees of The Lomnitzer Law Firm, P.A., their immediate families (parent, child, sibling, and spouse), and persons living in the same households as such individuals (whether related or not) are not eligible to participate in the competition.
  • Candidates for this scholarship should meet the minimum GPA requirement of 3.0 or higher and be in good overall academic standing.

Application Requirements

  • The candidate must submit a 750-1000 word essay response to the prompt: Write about the fairness of the different streaming and content-sharing platforms and how it relates to you, the creators on each platform, and the musicians.
  • The candidate must submit a professional resumé that lists their experience.
  • The candidate must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school and the most recent official transcript from their prior school. High school students must also submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.

The Copyright in the Cyberspace Scholarship recipient will be chosen during the month following the scholarship deadline.

Application Deadline and Instructions:

To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates must submit their full application (including the essay, resumé, and transcript) to the form below by midnight, November 30, 2024. Any applications sent after this date will not be considered.
